D-Day 75 Revival

Southwick D-Day 75 Revival was held over the weekend of the 8th and 9th June 2019

Once again the number of visitors grew and the atmosphere was amazing. Just seeing all those smiling happy people enjoying the activities and event which had been laid on, against the unique and unchanged backdrop of the village, gave the organising committee the best reward we could wish for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQj5PGW3vX4

Except, of course, the funds we hope to raise over the weekend!

The total this year has been confirmed and announced at the AGM on 22nd October: £52,311

Congratulations to all those who contribute so much to the success of the Southwick Revival  event, whether as members of the committee working throughout the year or the many volunteers who turn up and help us to manage the weekend itself – your commitment is very much appreciated.

The funds have been allocated to:

SSAFA (Soldiers Sailors Air Force Families Association)   £15,000

Rowans Hospice, Southwick,Veterans Appeal                       £10,000

Southwick D-Day Memorial Hall refurbishment project    £20,000

Charitable groups which help out over the weekend             £5,000

Moving on! The committee agreed that 2020 would be a Gap Year for the Southwick Revival. In the same way as Glastonbury take one year off in four for the farm to recover, we need a year off for ourselves to recover. The next Revival weekend will take place 12/13 June 2021.

D-Day 2020 will be commemorated, however. The 6th of June falls on a Saturday, the usual weekend of our Revival event. The Committee is planning an evening event on that most significant of dates. It could be along the lines of a Military Tattoo with other music and 1940’s themed entertainment.

Please note – this is a 1940s event, there is no ATM in the village and phone signal is limited to certain networks; O2/Vodafone are particular poor! We also have many visitors and outdoor seating can fill up quickly, so please do bring portable seating if you have trouble standing.
